In flight again, destination... Japan

We barely got back from Seattle as it was time to go to Japan. The trip we have planned for a long time already, to go and see the fall colors.

So, on Nov 21st we got to the airport and boarded an aircraft to Detroit first.

B747 in Detroit, the same kind of aircraft we would fly to Japan this time.

And here it is from the other side.

After the necessary waiting we got onboard. This time due to all the planning and some luck we were flying in business class which I really like.

Boxes for bags alongside the windows is a nice touch.

Lots of space in B747 business class
Now this is why I love international business class - TONS of space for feet, as you can see I cannot even touch the wall in front of me.

We were sitting just behind the pilot's cabin.

And off we go to Japan ;)

Another reason I love international business class flights is food.

Dinner in flight
Japanese style dinner for Ksusha (that she surprisingly did not like).

And more European dinner for me.

After the appetizers came the main courses. Ginger pork tenderloin.

And fried cod in sweet sauce with vegetables.

And of course a fine selection of wines.

Deserts (at the time I was already too full to participate).

Another reason to love business class - the seat reclines into a bed (a bit tilted on this flight, but even better in some other planes like B777).

I am sleeping on a flight to Tokyo
This picture does not give justice to the seat, it is in fact flat.

And then it was time to get some sleep ;)

Clouds outside of the window
This is what you can see outside of the windows for almost entire duration of the flight - 12 out 14-15 hours. Pretty boring, so sleeping was not so bad of an idea ;)

Landing in Japan
We started to descend, so now the clouds are above us again.

Some pretty dramatic lighting as we start to land.

Narita airport
And now we are on the ground, soon before sunset.

Even though we arrived to Tokyo, first part of our trip was to Nara, pretty far away. So after spending one our in Narita express train to Tokyo, we transferred to shinkansen to Kyoto where we spent another 2.5 hours.

Shinkansen cabin
This is how shinkansen looks inside (since we forgot to take a picture of it during our first trip).

From Kyoto we took a local train to Nara which consumed another hour of our time.

And then we got to our hotel. Unlike the travel itself, we only got the rooms booked quite late so settled for what we could find at the time. In Nara it was a dorm room for 4 persons (with bunk beds).

By the time we got here it was already almost 11pm, so it was time to hit the bed and get some more sleep ;)
