Paris, day 4 part 2 - Notre Dame Cathedral towers and a sightseeing trip on Sienna river.

Continuing our report from the day 4 in Paris.

First of all after exiting from the Cathedral I decided to walk it around ;)

Notre Dame south bell tower
South belltower.

And east side.

Near Notre Dame de Paris
Next we get to the Rue du Сloître Notre Dame.

Near Notre Dame de Paris
South side of the Cathedral faces it. BTW this long line is to my next destination.

Near Notre Dame de Paris
Waiting in the line. I sat there for at least 40 minutes. Where do you think this line is? Yes, the line is to get into the Notre Dame bell-towers. Admission is in groups of 20 about every 10 minutes. Price is 8 euros. You buy the ticket inside when entering as part of the group. There are no restrooms, no elevators and 400 steep steps on circular staircases.

Near Notre Dame de Paris
Almost at the entrance. Meanwhile you can enjoy the view of a cafe across the street while I am climbing up. ;)

Khimera observing the iffel Tower
Here we are! This is the second part of the excursion, Gallery of Chimers that is located on the top part of the Cathedral. We are greeted by Vampire, the most famous chimera that seems to be staring over the ever changing capital.

Paris view from Notre Dame
View of Paris. The gallery is located at the height of 46 meters (151 ft). The name was derived from creatures statues that are living located at balustrade corners. They are fantasy birds, animal-hybrids  and various unimaginable monsters that were drawn by architect Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc in XIX cenutry.

View from Bell Tower
From this side we can even see the Monmartr hill with Basilique du Sacre-Coeur.

Bell Tower
North bell tower. It contains 4 bells each has its own name. The bells are ringing a couple of times a day in the mornings and in the evenings.

View from Bell Tower
BTW you are probably wondering what was the first point of excursion. It was in the upper hall of the north gallery that is located at the height of organ gallery. A souvenir shop is located there and each group is given ~5 minutes there. I must note that the prices there were pretty insane at times.

Between the bell towers
And now we are the the square near parvis  between the two bell towers.

Notre Dame roof
Details of the steeple. Four groups of three apostles accompanied by allegoric pictures from the gospel descend from both sides of the steeple.

Inside of the bell tower
Entering there we see another stairs up. Climbing the stairs and...

Big Notre Dame bourdon bell (Emmanuel)
getting to the biggest bell of the Cathedral, drone. It makes the lowest sound and its name is "Emmanuel". It weights over 30 tons and its tongue is 500 kg (1102 lbs). It only rings during big catholic celebrations.

And outside again.

Next was descending from the 69 meter (226ft) height via cycle stairs/// After I got down everything was rotating in my eyes for about a minute.

And then it was time to return to the hotel because there were some evening river cruise plans.

Green takes over from now on.

The conference organised and paid for a evening Sienna river cruise to be used as a work dinner. We arrived to the cruise ship at about 6pm.

After sunset on Seine river
The sun has just set and I saw this nice view.

After sunset on Seine river
Attempt to take some HDR pictures was also interesting (and here is another version of it).

Seine river boat trip
And so we are taking sail.

some wine
Various appetizers and wines were served on the upper deck. We really liked this particular wine, sweet to the taste.
There we found out that foie gras could be of two sorts raw and fried. I think the fried one tastes better.

Now, the evening views of Paris from the ship. (btw here you can book a similar cruise):

At this point all the interesting sightseeing opportunities have ended, the ship turned back and we went to a lower deck for a dinner.

Appetizer. Some sort of a cheese with baked tomatoes and herbs.

Main course. Some sort of a meat with vegetables. Overall the food was not any good I think, the upper deck appetizers certainly were better.

And a desert.

Around the time of the cruise end the lower deck became dramatically hot and everybody went outside (discussing if it was a conspiracy of crew members to get rid of everybody without actually asking).

This concludes our day 4 in Paris.
